Eloise C. Mosley
80, of Hillside
Pines, Home for Special Care, Bridgewater, formerly of Petite Riviere,
died August 9, 2001 in the home. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was
a daughter of the late Ira J. and Lillian (Holznagel) Chapin. Eloise
was educated in the public schools of Chicago and received her higher
education at DePauw University, Indiana, New Hampshire State College
and the University of Maine. She also studied at the Aeolian School
of Music under Ernest and Eva Leslie Toy, receiving advanced diplomas
in pianoforte and organ. She taught music and special classes for the
challenged children in elementary schools in New Hampshire and Maine,
and was the first graduate student in New England to receive a master’s
degree in Elementary Guidance. She and her husband were the first to
introduce the UNICEF “Trick-or-Treat Halloween program into New
England. Eloise gave her musical talents and educational expertise in
the various churches in New England where her husband was pastor and
at various U.S. Army posts where her husband was chaplain. In Nova Scotia
she was an active volunteer for the Laubach Literacy program and the
Heart, Cancer and Red Cross societies and played the organ at the United
and Presbyterian churches in Dublin Shore, West Dublin, Lunenburg County.
For many years, she was the organist for Branch 24 of the Royal Canadian
Legion. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Rev. Dr. Ronald
A. Mosley of Conquerall Bank; sister Katherine C. Busse of Pauma Valley,
California; daughter Katherine E. Mills, Lafayette, Indiana; son Ronald
A. Jr. of Machias, Maine; son Gordon Gunn Mosley of Troy, Alabama; 10
grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her
brother, James B. Chapin. Cremation has taken place. After a private
committal service at the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, a memorial
service will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 2pm at St Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. James Slack Sr. officiating. Arrangements
are under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eloise’s memory may be made to
the Hillside Pines, Home for Special Care, Bridgewater.
