Richard W. Romkey

75, of Woburn, MA., USA, passed away April 15, 2001 at home. Born in Riverport, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Captain Milton and Shirley (Richards) Romkey. Educated at Lunenburg Academy, he joined the Canadian Merchant Navy, served from 1943 – 1947 and traveled all over the world. He moved to Waltham, Massachusetts in 1952 with his family. Later moved to Woburn, MA. in 1955. A member of the Franklin Typographical Society for over 40 years. He retired from the Boston Globe in 1989. His interests were traveling, boating, gardening and going on long walks. He leaves his wife of 52 years Marion (Lantz); daughter Sharon of Kennebunk, ME.; a son Barry of Burlington, MA.; brother James of Waltham, MA. and 3 grandchildren, Emily, Brianne and Brett. Visitation will be held in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Monday from 1 to 3pm, with a graveside service following the visitation in the Dayspring Cemetery, Rev. Dr. Thomas Harvey officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA of Middlesex – East, 607 North Ave, Suite 17 Wakefield, MA., 01880.
