Hubert Lester "Bert" Nicoll
The family is saddened to announce the passing of Hubert Lester “Bert” Nicoll which occurred at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Monday July 29, 2002, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Mira, Cape Breton on December 17, 1922, he was a son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Spencer) Nicoll. He served with the RCAF during the Second World War, and later attended Acadia University and the Nova Scotia Technical College (Dalhousie University), receiving a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS). He worked for Consolidated Paper in Trois Rivieres, Quebec and later with Stora Enso in Port Hawkesbury, NS, until retiring in 1986. Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth Mae (Smith); daughter, Cathy, Halifax; son, Jim (Lorelei) and three grandchildren, Matthew, Ben and Elizabeth, Colby Village, Dartmouth; sisters, Eva MacVicar, Sydney; Carol (Jim) Pinhey, St Margaret’s Bay; brothers, Charles (Gloria), Ottawa; Wes (Anna), Kitchener, Ont.; Bill, Mira; Ken (Marie), Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Ethel Nicoll, Glace Bay; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Irvine and brother-in-law George MacVicar. No visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 2pm Friday, August 2, 2002, in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, corner of York and Phoenix Streets, Bridgewater, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Family flowers only.
