Harold LeRoy Sperry
Of
Pleasantville, Lunenburg County, passed away October 17, 2002 in the
Veteran’s Unit of the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg,
in his 85th year. Son of the late John and Blanche Sperry, brother of
the late Rexford Sperry of Truro. Beloved husband of the late Verna
(Stewart) Sperry, who predeceased him in 1993. Much loved and treasured
by grandchildren Jeffrey and Christopher, stepdaughter Daryl, son-in-law
Garry (Lindberg), Ottawa. Loved and respected by Verna’s stepchildren
Gerry (Art) Timms, Saskatoon, Norman (Helen) Stewart, Charlottetown,
and Hector (Natalie) Stewart, Lunenburg. Dear uncle to Janet Smith,
Halifax and Kenneth (Mable) Sperry, Truro. During World War II, Harold
served in the Merchant Marine on many assignments, including the landing
of troops at Normandy. He subsequently worked for Imperial Oil, traveling
the world before becoming a self-employed painter. He married in 1960
and settled on his beloved LaHave River. His love and respect of nature
were passed on to his grandchildren, his kind and gentle ways were loved
and respected by all who knew him. A life well lived. Special thanks
and gratitude to the Staff of the Veteran’s Unit for their wonderful
care and kindness. A memorial service will be held 3:30pm Monday in
St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. James Slack officiating
with a reception to follow. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to Veteran’s Unit of the Fishermen's
Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg or St Paul’s Lutheran Church. Funeral
arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
