Roy Herbert Whynot
86,
of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2004 in the South
Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was the oldest son of the late
George and Uderah Whynot. He was a member of St Pauls Lutheran Church,
Bridgewater and an honorary member of the Bridgewater Fire Department.
He was a life member of Branch 24 Royal Canadian Legion, Bridgewater
and the West Nova Scotia Regiment; also a member of the WNSR Memory
Association and of the Veterans club. He was the last remaining member
of the Executive formed to construct the Bridgewater Memorial Arena
that honored the veterans who made the supreme sacrifice during the
Second World War. He served during the Second World War in England,
Sicily, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. He was the
caretaker of the Bridgewater Fire Station for ten years and a burner
service technician for Irving Oil. He attended the Civil Defense Technical
Training School Course # 21 (Rescue) at Ottawa. He served as Fire Inspector
for the Town of Bridgewater and as gasoline and diesel oil Tax Inspector
for the Province of N.S. He is survived by his son, Roy G. Whynot (Linda),
Brantford, Ont.; daughters, Dianne Shea (Wm.), Framingham, Mass.; June
Joudrey (Winston), New Germany; 3 grandchildren, Jacob Baker (Wanda);
Nadine Tanner (Douglas) and Wm. Shea III; two great grandchildren, Emily
and Sophia Baker. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Peeler); brothers,
Harry and Edward Whynot and son-in-law, Grant Baker. He was fondly known
by all as the “Candy Man” and his quick wit and bright smile
will be missed by all. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4pm
and 7 to 9pm with a public Legion Tribute Service being held at 2pm,
all in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Cremation will follow.
A memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday in St Pauls Lutheran Church,
Bridgewater, Rev Beth Wagschal officiating. Internment will follow in
the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Memorial donations may be made
to the Hillside Pines, Home for Special Care, Bridgewater or a charity
