"Pat" Iris Crouse
73, of Conquerall Bank, passed away May 22, 2005, at
home. Born
in North Brookfield, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Merton and
Elsie Baker. Her teaching career started at age 16 in one room schools
in Queens and Lunenburg counties. She attended Normal College and later
went to St. Mary’s University to improve her teaching skills and
acquired her Bachelor of Arts. She worked several years at the Royal
Bank in Bridgewater as a teller in the early fifties. She married her
present husband, James Crouse in 1956. They lived in Portland, Maine
while he sailed on Shell Tankers. While in the United States she also
worked in the bank. They returned home to Conquerall Bank in the late
fifties. She resumed her teaching career in Pentz Elementary, then moved
to Halifax in 1970, where she taught school in Herring Cove for 17 years.
They moved back to Conquerall Bank in the early nineties where she took
an active role in her husbands business affairs and the Women’s
Auxiliary of the fire department. She is survived by her husband and
two children, Michael and Sharon; three grandchildren, Justin, Conquerall
Bank; Ellen and Ben Griffiths, Halifax; two sisters, Mary MacQuarrie,
Jean Lohnes, North Brookfield; many nieces and nephews. No visitation
at the funeral home by request, a graveside service for those who wish
to come, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Conquerall
Bank, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer
Society or Shaid Animal Shelter through Sweeny’s Funeral Home
