Born in Blue Rocks, Lunenburg Co., on August 25, 1919
and died peacefully at home with his family in Pleasantville on February
17, 2005. He was the son of the late Aubrey and Clydie (Knickle) Greek.
Surviving are his wife Audrey (Beck); sons, Richard (Brenda), Petite
Riviere; Randy (Helen), Baker Settlement; Kathy (John) Gow, Pleasantville;
6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Surviving also are his sister,
Sylvia (Harry) Gray and brother, Harry (Daisy) Greek; nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; brother, Perry; sisters
Lillian Christianson; Elaine Hermon, Gloria Hart and Virginia Zwicker.
Victor started his career in the meat business at the age of 11 years
when he worked part-time in his uncle’s meat shop in Lunenburg.
After getting married and moving to Halifax he joined the Armed Forces.
When he opened his own shop in Dutch Village Road he continued to make
pudding and sausage. Later, he moved to Bridgewater with his wife and
family and manufactured in his own plant while he was employed at South
End Grocery. In 1970 he moved his business to its present location at
280 St. Phillips Street, where it is still in operation having been
taken over by his sons in 1991. He was a very successful and a well
respected businessman. He was a veteran of the Second World War having
joined the Army in 1939. He had a passion for planes and flying. He
was a member of the Liverpool Flying Club and owner of several small
aircraft. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch. 24,
Bridgewater. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
He had a great sense of humor, was very generous and had a wonderful
attitude about life. Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday,
in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, York Street, Bridgewater, with funeral
service 2 p.m. Monday, February 21 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church,
Alexandra Ave., Bridgewater. Rev. Ron Appleton officiating. Family flowers
only, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer
Society of Nova Scotia or charity of choice. On line condolences may
