Muriel
Annie Hartman
99, Mount Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, February
13, 2005 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. She was the
daughter of the late Theophilus and Delilah (Bush) Wilkie. She was the
last surviving member of her immediate family. Muriel was born on Bush
Island on May 9, 1905. She received her high school diploma in 1922
and began her teaching career in Martins Point at the age of 17. She
was a member of NSTU and taught in one room schools throughout Lunenburg
County, as well as Petite Riviere Elementary until her retirement in
1967. Muriel was a member of the United Church in Mount Pleasant and
later, West Side United, Pentz. She was active in her church holding
various positions, such as Sunday School teacher, choir member, Secretary
– treasurer for the W.A. etc. She read the Bible daily and enjoyed
reminiscing with anyone willing to listen. Her love of reading, crossword
puzzles, watching hockey on tv and visits from her extended family kept
her young at heart. She is survived by niece Mona Corkum, New Cumberland;
nephews, Arnold (Gwen) Wilkie, Pleasantville; Robert (Joan) Wilkie,
Dayspring; Gary (Bonnie) Wilkie, Amherst; nice Audrey (Allen) Hopkins,
Dayspring; Mary (Karl) Foran, Dartmouth and many great nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband Alvin; sister, Vera; brother, Henry,
niece Shirley Crowell, nephews, Ernam and Theodore Baker. Funeral service
to celebrate Muriel’s life will be 2 p.m. Thursday in West Side
United Church, Pentz. Nancy Ritchie officiating. Burial in Lakeside
Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. There will be no visitation at the funeral
home by request. Family flowers only, donations may be made to West
Side United Church or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements
