Lunenburg, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2005 in South Shore Regional
Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Meaford, Ontario, he was a son of the
late Edgar and Cora (Patterson) House. Fred joined the Royal Canadian
Navy in 1950 and was stationed in Halifax for several years until he
was honorably released. He then married Therese Cottreau and moved back
to Ontario. He joined the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in 1957 where
he served for seven years. In 1969, Fred joined the Michelin team and
moved to France for a one year period for management training and then
returned to Bridgewater at the opening of the Michelin Tires (Canada),
Bridgewater plant having worked for 22 years and retired in 1990. Fred
answered his call to ministry and was ordained as a deacon in the Roman
Catholic Church on Dec. 10, 1994 by Archbishop Austin Burke. Fred served
at St. Norbert’s, Lunenburg and St. Joseph’s, Bridgewater
as the parish assistant. He also served as chaplain for the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police of the Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Chester Detachments;
also for LaHave Manor Corporation, Dayspring and the Royal Canadian
Legion, branch 23, Lunenburg. Fred served his church community with
dignity and pride. Surviving are his wife the former Therese Cottreau;
daughters, Karen (John) Whynot, Big Lots; Michelle (Adam) Tipert, New
Germany. Son, Brian (Tracey) House, Pine Grove. Grandchildren, Stephanie,
Jessica and Jonathan; Ben, Kyle and Alana. Sister, Ruth Vaughan and
brother William (Amy) House; sister in law Hazel House all of Ontario;
several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, George. Visitation
for family and friends will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with a public legion tribute
service being held at 6:45pm Sunday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home,
York Street, Bridgewater. Funeral mass, 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s
Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. Archbishop Terrance Prendergast
and Msgr. Rev. William Wamboldt officiating, burial to follow in St.
Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only,
donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Norbert’s
