SINCE 1917
In Memory
Ellen Eileen Rhyno (Dorey)
Bridgewater.
Ellen, known to many as just “Mom” made the final journey
of her life on January 6, 2007 at the Hillside Pines Home for Special
Care, Bridgewater, peacefully with the family she loved so dearly by
her side. She is with the Lord “In the Garden” (her favorite
hymn). Ellen was born to Melbourne and Florence (Pulplett) Dorey in
Queensland, Nova Scotia on July 16, 1913. Ellen resided in Queensland
/ Hubbards area until 1966 where she was employed over the years as
a cook in local restaurants. Commuters would frequently stop to sample
her fare. One of her favorite stories is when she worked at the Seabreeze
Inn, she was a dance partner to Prince Philip of England, whom later
married Queen Elizabeth II. She was the former owner / operator of Mom’s
Restaurant in Hebbville for many years until she retired. She was well
known for her “Fish and Chip” recipe and was happy to serve
the many who came to eat with her. Her activities in later life, include
travel, a good game of 45 or rummy and bingo. Of course, we cannot forget
her once a day drink of brandy. Her favorite flower was the rose and
we certainly considered her the rose of our life. She is survived by
her loving companion and best friend of over 40 years, Lloyd Naugler,
who faithfully visited and attended her every day; sons, Harold “Harry”
(Sharon) Rhyno, Crescent Beach; Kenneth Rhyno, Campbell River, BC; daughters,
Shirley Hoben, Hubbards, Patricia (Frank) Corkum, Mount Pleasant; son
and daughter by a previous marriage Harold (Kay) MacDonald, Saint John,
NB; Helen (MacDonald) MacLean (Lionel), Hubbards; sister, Avis Sheppard,
Mount Uniacke. She was a grandmother to 27 grandchildren and many great
grandchildren as well as several great great grandchildren. She was
predeceased by brothers, Charles Dorey, Ernest Dorey; sisters, Cloris
Allen, Doris Dorey, Edna Dorey and three infant children. Visitation
