Janet Audrey Hilda Southwell (nee Boutilier)
72,
passed away Tuesday August 21, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family
in Newburne, Lunenburg County. Born on Boutiliers Island, Mushaboom
March 1, 1935, she was the seventh generation of Nova Scotian born.
Janet will be dearly missed by he husband Leslie Southwell who shared
53 years of marriage with Janet. They were married at HMCS Shearwater
on September 12, 1953 by Rev. Hugh Mortimer. Leslie, a young British
Immigrant made his home and Canadian life with his new Nova Scotia bride
Janet. Daughter Heather, son in law Daniel Sanft, grandchildren Hans
and Thyra will carry Janet and all her love onward in their hearts.
Also surviving are Janet’s sisters and brother in laws Helen Walters
of Eastern Passage NS; Eva and Geoff Scatchard of Campbell River BC;
Daisy and Ron Lawson of Dartmouth NS; Jean and Fred Hilton of Dartmouth
NS; 9 nephews, 3 nieces, 7 great nephews and 7 great nieces. Janet was
predeceased by her son Mark Southwell, Vancouver BC; parents Jennie
and Elmer Boutilier; brother in laws Allen Townsend, White Rock BC and
George Walters, Dartmouth, NS. A dedicated business partner Janet kept
the books for more than 40 years in both BC and NS. Janet’s generous
spirit, her love and dedication in caring for her immediate and extended
family and friends in known from coast to coast and will be greatly
missed by us all. A lifelong faith and love for family, gardening and
travel sustained her throughout life and times of great sorrow and loss.
Goodbye for now Janet… may our prayers send you forward on your
new path with our love for company. Janet wanted to thank all her caregivers,
Dr. John Jenkins a doctor she loved and thought the world of, Carla
Pittman and all the nurses, blood lab friends at the Lunenburg Fisherman’s
Hospital. Dr. Kew, Dr. Couban and all the kimo nurses at the QE2, Dr.
Abriel and the VON nurses. Thank you for all your care. Janet also wanted
to thank Reverend Catherine Robar and Reverend Anna Hoeg and the people
and friends of Neweburne and surrounding communities in which she had
made her home. There will be no visitation by request; funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to C.F. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany.
A memorial service will be held 11am Thursday at Transfiguration Anglican
Church, Newburne, Rev. Anna Hoeg officiating with Rev. Catherine Robar
assisting. Family Flowers only, memorial donations in Janet’s
memory may be made to The Transfiguration Anglican Church, Newburne,
and Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg or the charity of
