David Flemming Walker, QC
Born
May 6, 1934, Hammonds Plains, formerly of Barss Corner, Lunenburg County,
passed away peacefully on April 27, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII. He was
the only child of the late Gordon S. and Mary (MacDonald) Walker of
Port Hawkesbury. After spending three years with the Department of Justice
in Ottawa, David returned to Nova Scotia in 1963 to lead a successful
law practice in New Germany, Lunenburg County, until his retirement
in 1996. David had a deep love of the Law and was well regarded by his
peers and clients for his intellect, knowledge and sense of public service.
He was recognized with a Queens Council designation in 1977 and was
honoured in 2000 by the Law of the Future Fund of the Canadian Bar Association
for his outstanding contribution to the legal profession and to the
advancement of law in Canada. He was a past Master of Hillcrest Lodge,
#93, A. F. & A. M., New Germany and former Deacon of the Barss Corner
United Baptist Church. David touched many lives through his contribution
as the coach of the Springfield Ice Kings Hockey Team during the 1960s
and ‘70s. Following his retirement he expressed his literary interests
by writing children’s stories which entertained family and friends,
especially his pretend “grandchildren”, Ben and Amy Silver,
Monastery. He is survived by his loving wife Loretta, (Chisholm), son
Michael (Hilary), and cousins Anna Nicoll and Jessie London, Toronto,
Ken MacKenzie, Montreal, Rod MacKenzie, Halifax, Sheilah (Paul) Redekop,
Winnipeg, Bev (Grant) Richardson, Wolfville, sisters-in-law Marie Kelly,
Antigonish, Audrey (Lowell) Binder, Hammonds Plains, Anne (Ron) Langlois,
Hatchett Lake, and granddaughter-like Christina Scriven, Toronto. Cremation
has taken place. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 pm, with visitation
from 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, April 30 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home,
4895 route 10, New Germany. Interment 11 a.m., Thursday, May 1, in Barss
Corner Community Cemetery, Barss Corner with a Celebration of Life service
at 2 pm, Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater,
Rev. Sarah Duffy and Rev. Jennifer Joudrey, officiating. A reception
will follow in the CE centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be made
to 7A of the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, the Barss Corner United
Baptist Church, or, the Bridgewater United Baptist Church. On-line condolences
