Lorna Irene Blades
87,
Bridgewater, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at home. Born, June
12, 1922 in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Foster and Margaret
(Baxter) Burrell. The family moved to Yarmouth when she was young; later
she attended Milton School, then graduated from Yarmouth Academy. She
graduated from the Normal College in Truro and Dalhousie Summer School.
She taught in the Yarmouth area for several years and then in Milton School.
In 1954, she married Clifford Blades and moved to Bridgewater. She taught
at Bridgewater Elementary School for 40 years and retired from the profession
in 1983. She was a member of the Lunenburg County Retired Teachers’ Organization
and the Bridgewater Elementary Retired Teachers’ Group. Lorna was a life
member of Bridgewater United Church, active with the United Church Women,
50 year secretary of unit 7; other interests were in Brunswick Street
Missions and the church bazaar. Surviving are her foster daughter, Diane
Patten, Bridgewater; god-children, Debra (Burrell) Lush and Cathy (Blades)
Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,
Clifford in 1995; sister, Florence Rowan; brothers, Howard and Reginald.
No visitation at the funeral home by request. Service 11 a.m., Friday
in Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Immediate family flowers
only, donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church, Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Nova Scotia, Shaid Animal Shelter or charity of choice.
