Catherine "Kay" Isabel Richards
84 formerly of Bridgewater passed away on Wednesday 27 January 2010 in
the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in LaHave, she was the only
child of the late Percy and Loie (Hayes) Richards. At seven years of age
Kay not only lost her father at sea, but was diagnosed with Polio, an
affliction that left her with a twisted and fore-shortened leg. No doubt
this condition changed the course of her life but she eventually went
on to become a graduate of the Bridgewater Commercial School. She went
to work as a secretary / book-keeper at the Capital Theatre and stayed
with the Fielding family when they developed the South Shore Nursery.
From there she worked with an accounting office that changed ownership
over the years and is now known as Belliveau-Veinotte Inc. Upon retirement
she settled into a senior’s Apartment complex and then the Mahone nursing
Home. Those who were close to Kay regarded her as a very special friend.
She in turn, took great interest in their children and was generous to
a fault to those closest to her. Kay passed away peacefully in her sleep.
A special thanks is extended to the Medical staff and Caregivers at the
South Shore Regional Hospital and the Mahone Nursing Home. Visitation
will be held 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday 31 January 2010 in Sweeny’s Funeral
Home, Bridgewater from where a memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M.
Monday 1 February 2010, Lay Minister Vernon Mossman officiating. Burial
will be in the Fort Point Cemetery at a later date. No Flowers by request,
memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church or Mahone
Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.
